The sun harnesses nuclear fusion to incredible effect. Ever since humans discovered how the sun works, we have aspired to unlock the power of fusion on Earth. Compared to other sources of energy, fusion has many advantages that set it apart as the ultimate form of energy production. Nuclear fusion reactions produce 10 to 100 million times the specific energy compared to energy produced by fossil fuels. Fusion reactions typically do not result in long-lived radioactive waste. And, because of the abundance of fusion fuel (most of the universe is made of it!) these reactions produce a near-limitless form of energy.
